ANSI art is basically art made from text, like ASCII art, but it has more things for designers like the ability to use various gradients, as well as use color right in the editor, so no more coloring in GIMP.

Another thing I've been trying is databending, which in simple terms is editing preexisting images in something that shouldn't be used to edit them, like a hex editor, or in my case, Audacity. Audacity's normally a music editing program, but you can trick it into opening raw data as an audio file, use a few carefully placed filters and effects, then save it as an image again.
