Literature Text

A thousand paper cranes
lie scatter'd 'cross th' world.

They're symbols of peace,
paper wings all unfurled.

Every one these tired hands
folds brings peace throughout the land.

That is my goal:
a thousand origami cranes.

I've lost count of how many I've made.

Guess I'll just keep folding paper cranes
'till the day I die.

I never keep them,
I just give them away,
for peace should be shared
with the world.

If the legend comes true
and the cranes grant me a
wish,
I'd just give the wish to the people I gave the cranes to,
divide it among the people I've helped.

My only wish,
my one true purpose,
is to make the world happy.

Anything else,
I don't really need.

That's why I'd
give up
my offered wish.

...because after I've made people happy
with my origami cranes,
I've fulfilled that wish.

There's nothing better I wish for
than to spread joy
into the lives of others...
Dedicated to Pamela-Jean Shields Morgan (9/14/1954 - 3/13/2010)

My mom asked for probably a year for the Special Ed office at MHS to give her a copy of this poem I had written, the only copy they had. About 2 months after her passing, I received the poem and burst into tears of sadness and rage, wondering why they couldn't find it sooner. Maybe I'll print it out now and frame it like she wanted.
